Inocybe albodisca Pk. Cap 1.5-3.5cm across, convex to broadly conic; pale brownish flesh-colored or pallid grayish brown, except at the center, which has a persistent creamish-white superficial layer; smooth then a little fibrillose, silky. Gills adnexed; white becoming dingy pinkish brown. Stem 30-50 x 3-5mm, with a distinct marginate bulb. pale flesh-colored, lighter at the base when fresh, later pruinose. Flesh pallid or a touch pinkish. Odor spermatic. Spores nodulose, 6.5-8 x 4.5-6µ. Deposit snuff brown. Pleurocystidia plentiful, colorless, ventricose, thin-walled, encrusted, 45- 70 x 13-20µ. Habitat on bare soil with hemlock or in mixed woods. Quite common. Found in eastern North America, west to Missouri and also on the northern West Coast Season August-October. Not edible most Inocybes have been found to contain toxins. Comment The superficial whitish layer on the cap center is very distinctive. |
